Ipomoea quamoclit is a vine native to tropical America; naturalized elsewhere in the tropics, but also has established in the southeastern and eastern USA, as far north as New York. This species is found in open disturbed habitats, including roadsides, fencerows, old fields, pastures, riverine habitats, etc. It is an annual or perennial, herbaceous, growing as long as 1-3 m. The leaves are long, and deeply lobed. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, and can be scarlet-red, pink or white. The flowers often attract hummingbirds.
